Sainsbury's is Britain's longest-standing major food retailing chain, having been established in 1869. With 727 stores throughout the UK selling approximately 34,000 lines and employing c.153,000, Sainsbury's serves over 14 million customers a week. Nearly 60% of their stores are in centre or edge-of-centre locations, many of them built on previously redundant sites.
